Pellet heating: it's not just a question of economics

Pellet heating: it's not just a question of economics

In the first two months of 2022, ENplus conducted an international survey that aimed to improve understanding of pellet consumer behaviour and habits. The survey was open to anyone who wanted to share their experience and gathered direct information from a total of 263 respondents in 31 different countries.

The data revealed that most consumers choose pellets because it is a cheaper heating option than traditional solutions, including natural gas. More than 42% of all respondents stressed that their decision was also influenced by the fact that pellets are a more environmentally friendly solution.

39% went further, describing pellets as the most efficient solution for their home.

Most consumers are generally satisfied with the supplier they buy from. In fact, more than 70% say that they change their pellet supplier only once a year or even more rarely. Exceptions are pellet consumers in countries such as Romania and North Macedonia, where the residential pellet market is still in an early stage of development.

Not surprisingly, home delivery is a service that most end users expect to receive. 48% of the respondents indicate that they have taken advantage of home delivery of bags of pellets, while 26% of the respondents rely on bulk pellet delivery by tanker truck. In 80% of the cases, the pellets are purchased from a local supplier..

More than 90% of the respondents consider the purchase price as an important or very important factor when choosing pellets. The majority also claim that quality and sustainability certifications play a crucial role in the choice of pellet brand.
